Married at a young age Saweetie’s parents were not able to afford many things as she wanted, and this was the inspiration behind her desire to become a successful rapper in the world.
Talking with The Line Of Best she said, “I grew up in the Bay Area but I finished high school in Sacramento, which is why I claim both areas. I feel like both of them shaped me into the woman I am today. Growing up, was a lot of fun because I have a really big family. I was an only child for like eleven years, like eleven years, so my brothers and sisters were like my cousins. And I’m half Asian half-Black, so there was a big cultural difference.”

Saweetie’s family is also into sports, her grandfather used to play football for the San Francisco 49ers and her dad Johnny Harper played for San Jose State.
After getting inspiration from her grandfather and father she was interested in playing football. But her grandmother discouraged her from playing football and she started to play volleyball instead. Anyway, later she got a chance to play football as a quarterback for the powderpuff league.
She remembers that she was grown up with her grandparents rather than her parents. And this was because her parents were in their teens and not so rich which is why they were not so much serious about raising her.
She told The Line Of Best Fit, “My mom was 17 when she had me, so my parents were always working, and my grandma took care of me. My mom and my dad both come from big families, too – nine on my dad’s side and seven on my mom’s side. We didn’t grow up rich, or at least I know I didn’t, which is why it feels good to make all this money because I’ve never been able to just buy whatever I wanted to.”

Saweetie also said that her cousin Gabrielle Union who is also an actress and one and only famous members of her family used to do regular comments on her Instagram posts for her publicity.
Saweetie has also appreciated her cousin and said that she wants to be like her cousin because when Union’s career was booming she kept it secret from friends and family.
Talking with Access she added, “I love when she [Union] compares this industry I’m currently into when she broke in and the difference is just – for one, they had more privacy. At times I feel like I was born in a different time period because I love my privacy and I wish I could have lived back then – when people actually respected people’s space.”
