But did you know that he has three children? Corrie Bird is the first daughter of the NBA legend and his ex-wife, Janet Condra. She was born before Larry even started his NBA career. At that time, Larry’s dad had committed suicide and his father’s death had affected him which led their marriage to be strained.

Who is Corrie Bird?

Corrie Bird was born on 14th August 1977 in the town of Brazil, Indiana, United States. She is the first and only biological daughter of Larry Bird and his ex-wife, Janet Condra. According to her birthdate, she is currently 44 years old and her zodiac sign is Leo.

She is well educated as she has graduated from Northview High School in Brazil, Indiana. Corrie was really tall compared to her peer groups as a teenager. She had reached the height of 5ft 10inches (178 cm) before graduating high school. Apparently, she attended Indiana State University and she majored in elementary education there. She was a terrific athlete at the University.

Larry Bird had married Janet Condra right after he got enrolled at Indiana State. The two were childhood friends. Janet used to work as a mail carrier and once she had disc surgery. Many had thought that the two would go on to last forever.

But that was not to be because the former childhood sweethearts couldn’t make their marriage work and they decided to get separated after less than a year of being married in 1976. However, they briefly got together to try and work on their union. It was during this period that Corrie was born. Even after that, they couldn’t reconcile and they call it quits once and for all in 1977.

Bird’s attorney had asked for a paternity test as well. And by the time the test results proved Corrie was indeed his child, she was already a toddler. Larry said that he wanted to focus on education and his basketball career. Sadly, she didn’t get to see much of her father. He became really successful in his quest until the court forced him to stand up to his responsibilities as a father.

Apparently, Larry had started dating Dinah Mattingly and refused to accept his daughter as his own for years. Later, he revealed that he regrets the decision to be away from his daughter to this day.

Dinah Corrie’s mother got married to Mike Deakins after her divorce. After Corrie’s father left her she remained close to her mother Janet and her stepfather Deakins.

As mentioned earlier, Corrie’s father started dating Dinah Mattingly and they finally decided to walk down the aisle back in 1989. Even though they didn’t bear any biological children, they adopted two children of both sexes, namely Mariah Bird and Conor Bird.

Mariah BIrd seems like she doesn’t like to reveal much about herself to the media and internet ass she has managed to stay away from public eyes. But on the other hand, her brother Conor has been involved in many scandals.

He had been involved in various scandals such as trying to run someone over with his car to underage drinking. However, Corie seems to have an excellent relationship with her half-siblings.

John Gearan of the Worcester Telegram highlighted an article quoting then 15 years old Corrie in February 1993. In that article, it was reported that Corrie’s letter to her dad where she had asked him if she could come up to his retirement ceremony but she never heard from him and hadn’t had much contact with her dad.

Corrie’s mother had revealed that Bird used to visit his daughter once each summer but did not in 1992 because of his Olympic tournament. Later, Corrie got a chance to appear on the Oprah Winfrey Show and speak about her non-existent relationship with her father.

Oprah had asked why she couldn’t move on despite it’d been 20 years since she had lived without her father during the show. To which she replied by saying that she had moved in some ways, she still was hoping he ould be part of her life.

On the other hand, her mother also said, “When she was little, I made excuses. I couldn’t protect her from the hurt caused by her dad. I could protect her from everything else, but not that.”

Later, Corrie said how she used to send him letters, and her mom would send him her school pictures and report cards. Furthermore, she also revealed that she would send certified mail along with her mother to make sure Bird received them, but unfortunately, he didn’t respond to them.

Even though Larry didn’t openly accept Corrie as his daughter in public. After some years when she grew up, he did address her as his daughter in his autobiography.

The ex-power forward citing the past estrangement with his daughter, namely Corrie, admits he couldn’t honestly;y say he’s had that much to do with her life because of his differences with her mother Janet, in his autobiography.

Furthermore, he has also explained in the book how he used to think about his daughter all the time, but he knew he also couldn’t do much; he couldn’t go back and relive the first five or six years of her life.

Additionally, the Pacer’s coach has described his daughter as a fine and beautiful young lady and also admires Janet for bringing her up in the best way possible.

In the book, he also talked about his daughter’s past athletism and says how she was good at everything she did and that he was really proud of her. He has made a concession to having loved her and writes he is going to be there any time for his daughter.

It has been revealed that Corrie had once talked about what the reunion thing with her father was like during her adult life. She told that her father had just taken the Indiana Pacers coaching job which moved closer to where she was.

She also got a chance to see the Pacers play during the game one day. At that time, she also got to talk to her father’s second wife, namely Dinah Mattingly, and her half-siblings Mariah and Connor. 

At that time, her father while coaching the Pacers looked over and saw her holding Mariah but he just awkwardly smiled. But unfortunately, she didn’t get a chance to talk to him.

In the same season, she got tickets for two Pacer’s games from Dinah which she accepted. When she went to the game, she finally got to talk to her father briefly after the match.

She said, “I was really happy to go to the game. Dad seemed interested in what I had to say. He walked me to my car, and he hugged me. I hope I can see more of him now.”

What is she up to these days?

Even though she couldn’t have a normal relationship with her father, she has grown up to be an accomplished lady. As mentioned earlier, she is well educated and has received her bachelor’s degree in elementary education and business administration from Indiana State University. Furthermore, she also obtained an MBA and healthcare management specialty from Indiana Wesleyan University in 2011.

Talking about her career, she has worked in a managerial and supervisory capacity for several hospitals. She served as a business office manager from 2002 to 2007 at the St. Vincent Clay Hospital. After that, she joined Union Associated Physicians Clinics as a  practice manager from 2008 to 2016.

She also worked at St. Mary of the Woods College as a clinical coordinator of the nursing department from 2018 to 2019. Currently, she is serving Putnam County Hospital which is located in Greencastle, Indiana as the registration supervisor since January 2019.

Current relationship status

Corrie Bird is currently in a relationship with a fellow Indiana native, namely Trent Theopolis Batson. He is a security specialist and works as a public safety officer at the Rose-Human Institute of Technology. It is a private university that specializes in STEM and is located in Terre Haute, Indiana.

Apparently, they had met each other and started dating in Indiana in the mid-2000s. Soon, they decided to walk down the aisle on 17th May 2008. It was a beautiful ceremony but whether her father attended the ceremony is not known.

They decided to exchange their vows at the White Chapel before holding a reception at the Rose Human dining hall. At the ceremony, Corrie wore a white sleeveless gown while her groom looked dashing in a suit.

Corre has been in a marriage relationship with her husband for over a decade now. Together they have welcomed two children, namely a daughter Violet Marie (born on 18th June 2012), and a son Sebastien Grey (born on 20th April 2017).

Additionally, her husband has two children from his former marriage, namely Samantha and Christian. So, she has altogether four children-two blood related and two step-children.
