If you are a crime story listener and love reading or listening to various true crime events then you might have probably heard of the name Jasmine Richardson. So who exactly is she?
Back on April 23, 2006, three dead bodies were found inside Jasmine’s home and the dead bodies that were found were of Jasmine’s 42 years old father Marc Richardson, her 48 years old mother Debra, and her 8 years old brother Tyler Jacob. However, Jasmine was absent when the bodies were found so the police thought that she might also have gotten the same fate as her family but she was later found about 130 kilometers (81 mi) away with her 23-year-old boyfriend Jeremy Steinke.
As mentioned police thought that the murderer took Jasmine with them but later they were shocked when they found out that this horrific act was done by 12 years old Jasmine herself. She killed them with her so-called ‘300-year-old werewolf’ boyfriend, Jeremy Steinke. So what was the reason behind the murder?
Why did Jasmine Richardson kill her family?
As Jasmine grew up she grow fond of punk and rock music and following the culture she turned herself into a goth girl. And you know that many people say that girls are attracted to bad and mean guys, just like when Jasmine met a guy named Jeremy Steinke at a punk rock concert.
After meeting him she found her goth partner in 23 years old Jeremy who called himself a ‘300-year-old werewolf’ and ‘souleater.’ However, her parents or even her friends did not like her relationship with Jeremy so she was punished and her parents banned her from seeing Jeremy and they also confiscated her computer as they used to talk through a website ” VampireFreaks.com” (there are people who also believe that the two met through this very website) after she was grounded Jeremy asked her to marry him and she even agreed to him.
Jasmine showed change after her family and friends counseled her so she got back her computer and they started chatting again. There were various messages exchanged in their mail and one of the mail from Jeremy read “I miss you more than killing people, can we get together and kill people together?”
Then it was Jasmine who planned to murder her family and she sent a mail where she wrote, “I have this plan, It begins with me killing them and ends with me living with you.”
“Their throats I want to slit. They will regret the shit they have done. Especially when I see to it that they are gone. They shall pay for their insurance. Finally, there shall be silence. Their blood shall be payment!” Jasmine wrote in her mail.
Jasmine killed her family
After making a plan reports have also shown that she told her friends about her plot but they did not believe her. And so after some time, the time had come to execute their plan, and after the investigation, police found out that Jasmine’s boyfriend Jeremy first stabbed Jasmine’s mother Debra 12 times and her father Marc 24 times. Jeremy then left her brother Jacob for Jasmine to kill.
Jasmine told police that she did not really want to participate in the murder but she said that she killed her brother because she did not want her brother to grow up an orphan. One of the officers (Brent Secondiak) who was on the murder scene told CBC News that he wishes Jasmine to go rehabilitated and find peace.
“I don’t truly understand it — an act of horror and violence like that … But I hope we can just find peace and move on,” said Secondiak, who is now an inspector with the Medicine Hat Police Service. My biggest fear is that she hasn’t [been rehabilitated], that she’s tricked those in the system, that she hasn’t moved forward … I hope that she’s truly taken responsibility for this and is able to move forward” Secondiak explained.
Where is Jasmine now after her release?
She was charged and found guilty of first-degree murder and sentenced to 10 years imprisonment. In May 2016 she completed her sentence and was set free however the court set her free on the condition of supervision as well as restrictions.
During her prison time, she went to Mount Royal University for classes, and actually, she was released from her 10 years sentence in 2011 and was sent to a psychiatric hospital. In October 2012 it was reported that Jasmine’s rehabilitation was going well and she also showed remorse for what she did which experts said was genuine and not an act.
