How Long is the new batman movie?

The Batman 2022

The Batman has been out for over three months now and many of you might have already watched the show. The movie finally found its way to movie theatres after much anticipation. The director of the film is Matt Reeves and he wrote the screenplay along with Peter Craig.

The film stars Robert Pattinson as the broody Caped Crusader just two years into his crime-fighting career as he joined in their tug of war for Gotham’s soul by Zoë Kravitz’s Catwoman, Jeffrey Wright’s Lieutenant James Gordon, and Colin Farrell’s Penguin.

The film faced criticism for the runtime of the new movie after fans thought that the movie was too long. So, let’s get to know how the director of the film responded to the criticisms.

The runtime of the new movie The Batman

The runtime of the new movie The Batman is 2 hours and 56 minutes. The nearly three-hour film is the longest solo Batman movie to date. It consists of at least eight minutes of credits as revealed by the film’s insider to The Hollywood Reporter.

Additionally, it makes the new Batman movie the third-longest film ever made that is based on a comic book. Now you must be wondering which two films earn the first and second place. Well, we have Zack Synder‘s Justice League in the first place at 242 minutes and in the second place, we have Marvel‘s Avengers: Endgame at 181 minutes.

The Batman was once even longer

The director of the film Matt Reeves did an interview with The New York Times and he addressed the near three-hour runtime in that interview. He said, “Once you see the movie, I think that ceases to be an issue. It’s immersive, it takes you along and it keeps you engrossed.”

From his words, we can know that he admitted that it does look daunting on paper but he assured fans that they won’t even notice the runtime once the film starts due to its immersive story and performances.

He even added that the film was once even longer. Additionally, he also talked about the potential sequel of the film to the outlet. He said, “The events of the film would create the first glimmer of hope that the city has had in 20 years, but also smash the power vacuum apart. Where the story goes, for sure, I’ve had a lot of thoughts about that. But as I said, I need a nap.”

Furthermore, he also revealed about screening the movie for test audiences before locking in the final version to Collider. He told, “They would come to a screening and then suddenly they realized they were seeing a Batman movie, and it showed how much love there is for Batman, which was so exciting for me. “Because of course, I’ve loved this since I was a kid and to be in an audience and have that big-screen experience after we’ve all been away from it for so long and to see people cheer and to see people get excited and then to see them get wrapped up.”

Matt added, “I mean, there’d be moments where there was just utter silence and you were like, ‘Okay, people love Batman and they’re into this,’ and that was exciting. That to me was the best part of the testing.”
