Freddie was born on the 14th of Feb, 1992. His hometown is London and he was born in the Camden Town of the London District. His father was an actor named Edward Highmore and her mother is Sue Latimer who is a talent agent. Her mother is a famous agent in England. Her clients include Imelda Staunton and Daniel Radcliffe to name a few.

Anyway, Freddie grew up with his younger brother Albert. As we mentioned, he started acting from an early age. His first film in and around the UK was for a Scottish film. After this, he started to play a role in the BBC Film named ‘Happy Birthday Shakespeare.’ He was so good at acting that he got to play the Young King Arthur in a TV miniseries named ‘The Mists of Avalon.’

In terms of education, Highmore went to a school in North London and then later on to a school named Highgate School. After high school, he went to Emmanuel College at the University of Cambridge.

Freddie’s Initial Hollywood Career

Freddie’s Hollywood career began when he started doing films such as Finding Neverland and Five Children and it.  In addition, he portrayed Charlie Bucket in the reboot of Charlie and the Chocolate factory. He got this role after he was noticed for Finding Neverland by directors in Hollywood. The 2005 reboot of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was a huge success!

He then played in the 2006 British comedy named A Good Year. This drama film was based on a novel of the same name. After this, Freddie played in many other children’s films in the late 2000s. These include The Spiderwick Chronicles, Astroboy, The Golden Compass, and a lot more!

Coming out of being a Child Actor

After the 2000s, Freddie was no longer deem fit to be cast in children’s movies. So, he got serious roles. In 2013, he was cast as a lead role in the American Psychological Horror series named ‘Bates Motel.’ This was a prequel to a Hitchcock film named Psycho that came out in the ’60s. The film received good appreciation. He portrayed Norman Bates to perfection.

His most famous performance is the Tim Burton-directed reboot of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The cast was legit incredible for this movie. They had Johnny Depp, David Kelly, Helena Bonham Carter, and Noah Tyler just to name a few, The movie was a box office success.  It earned three times more than its budget and got many positive reviews. In addition, the movie was Oscar-nominated.

His 2008 movie named ‘The Spiderwick Chronicles’ was another huge success. It was based on the bestselling book written by Holly Black. This movie has a really impressive story and Freddie’s acting stands out here as well. The movie had Sarah Bolger and Nick Nolte. It gained critical praise in addition to being a hit at the box office. This role led Freddie to be taken seriously in Hollywood and more films started approaching him.

Highmore’s career highlight though, came when he nailed the role of Norman Bates. It is his best work (as an actor) to date and this has made him quite a household name in America.
