He started his career as a sports presenter when he was still in his university Notre Dame. He used to host a podcast on Showtime’s A Season with Notre Dame Football where he would interview various players. Collinsworth also interviewed athletes as a member of the Olympic Late Night Team with Ryan Seacrest during the 2016 Rio Olympics.

As per reports he also worked on the sideline production team on NBC from 2013 to 2017, and In 2016 and 2017, he served as a sideline reporter for NBC Sports’ coverage of the Blue-Gold Game. He also co-hosted Sirius XM’s The Student Section during his last two years of college.

“At the Hall of Fame Game at the beginning of the year, NBC executive Sam Flood told me he was interested in claiming Jac and he will make a run for him. Ugh, don’t do that, I said. He’s getting on ESPN…he’s doing all these shows…they want him to be on those shows…it’s outside, so he won’t hear me. Do not do this, do not do this.’ He replies I’m telling you, I’ve observed in person the young talent now available, and he’s the best I’ve seen. I also have a couple of other guys that I’m hiring, but I want him. I tried hard to discourage him from going ahead, and I tried to discourage Jac from going ahead.”

But after seeing his work he changed his mind and even said that he is happy for him. Since then father and son have been working together in NBC sports.
